Dover Fastrack launched in November 2024 as a low emission bus rapid transit service connecting Whitfield with Dover town centre and Dover Priory railway station. Fastrack buses have priority on the express route which includes a new bus, cycle and pedestrian-only bridge across the A2 at Whitfield, and a new link road from the B&Q roundabout in Whitfield to Dover Road at Guston.
Dover Fastrack provides a reliable, high-quality bus service, and supports the sustainable development of new housing in Whitfield and at the former Connaught Barracks which will together produce a combined 6250 new homes. The delivery of these homes will place additional strain on Dover’s road infrastructure and services which is an area already affected by high levels of commercial traffic originating from the Port of Dover. A bus rapid transit system in the form of Dover Fastrack, will play a key role in the transport needs for the development as it will offer an attractive alternative to private car use which will in turn reduce congestion. The route will also support growth at the White Cliffs Business Park in Whitfield. As such, Dover Fastrack is a key part of the managed expansion of Whitfield as a place to live and work. As Whitfield expands, the frequency and length of the route will expand to meet the demand. .
During November 2024, the service began operation, with buses running every 20 minutes between Monday to Saturday, and every 60 minutes on Sundays. During 2025, further service improvements are planned. This includes the introduction of an electric fleet funded by the Department for Transport Zero Emission Bus Regional Areas Scheme. Also planned are extended hours of operation to match the London High Speed rail services.
